Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve updated this, things have been so busy!
I decided to head back to Chiang Mai a day earlier than planned to catch Songkran. I’m so glad I did, it was absolutely brilliant! It was really easy to change my ticket and managed to book in to a hostel at last minute. The hostel I stayed in was Sunny’s and I will 100% recommend this place if going to Chiang Mai. The welcome I received was great, they provide towels, good WiFi (even in the dorms) and was really clean. The staff were super and arranged a taxi to bring me to the airport the next day – no worries! The location is perfect, near loads of restaurants, bars and the Night Bazaar and markets.
I met up with Jaap and after some food we met up with the others that I’d met in Pai. The bar that everyone seems to go to is Zoe’s and I can see why. It was crazy! There’s also smaller bars surrounding it so you have loads of choices of where to go. It was absolutely packed with people who had come to Chiang Mai for the festival and the vibe was insane!
The next day, myself and Jaap went to this vegetarian restaurant called ‘taste from heaven’. This I would make a mandatory stop if visiting CM. It was so tasty! I had the veggie bacon sandwich and am still thinking about it! After our food we joined back in (loaded with our water guns) with the craziness that was taking place on the streets. The whole city was having water fights celebrating Songkran. All of the locals and tourists mingled and just had so much fun with each other. It was incredible!
I had to head back to Sunny’s around 2:30 to get ready for my flight. They kindly gave me a clean towel to freshen before leaving (again, brilliant customer service!).
Thailand was more than I imagined it would be. The people I met were incredible who really made the whole trip to Thailand such an experience! Between bamboo tattoos, bottles of beer Chang, elephants and crazy monkeys, I won’t easily forget this place!
